The Role of Consecration in Hearing from God

Written By Psalmist Angel Brown
Guarding the Eye and Ear Gates:

True consecration opens the door to intimate communion with God, enabling the prophetic psalmist to hear His voice clearly.

  • Psalm 24:3-4 declares, "Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god."
  • Consecration purifies the heart and mind, removing barriers that hinder spiritual perception and discernment.
  • Prophetic psalmists must be vigilant in guarding what they see and hear, recognizing the impact it has on their spiritual sensitivity.
  • Proverbs 4:23 admonishes, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
  • Philippians 4:8 exhorts believers to focus on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable, emphasizing the importance of consuming wholesome content.

The psalmist’s life is one of continual surrender and dedication to God's purposes. By embracing a lifestyle of consecration, holiness, cleanliness, and guarding the eye and ear gates, we position ourselves to hear from God clearly and declare His Heart to the world through music and song. Let us heed the call to consecration and holiness, knowing that it is the pathway to intimacy with God and effectiveness in ministry.
